RECORDING BEGINS

Night has fallen on San Francisco outside the windows of Starfleet Headquarters. It’s been a number of hours since the battle for the Prometheus concluded, but those present for the emergency session have not yet been dismissed. Despite the visible exhaustion on the faces of those around the conference table, the room buzzes with an excited energy.

Captain Shelby is off to the side of the room, speaking with a young Ensign who is operating one of the temporary consoles moved into the room earlier in the day. The Ensign is unnamed in this archival file.

Shelby: Are you certain?

Starfleet Ensign: He's finished double-checking diagnostic results. He's confident in his assessment.

Shelby: Well... If he's confident... Is he ready to present his findings to the room?

Starfleet Ensign: Starfleet Communications are ready to route the subspace transmission upon order.

Shelby crosses the room to the head of the conference table

Shelby: Admiral Hayes, Ross, Henry, Necheyev and of course Admiral Paris. We've had a holographic engineering expert in direct contact with Prometheus for the past 3 hours. He's ready to present findings on how we were able to retake the ship with so little resistance.

She nods to the Starfleet Ensign. The large display behind her transitions from the logo of the United Federation of Planets to the face of a human male in a gold collared Starfleet uniform. As it does, she steps to the side.

Shelby: Lieutenant Reginald Barclay from the USS Enterprise. Please take over.

Barclay: I-I, uh. Of course.

Barclay: The Prometheus received a-uh-holographic datastream. Shortly after it was b-boarded by the- Romulans.

Ross: Jeremiah, was this one of your ideas?

Hayes: Nothing to do with us on this occasion.

Ross: Sorry for interrupting. Barclay was it? Please continue.

Barclay: The t-transmission was sent to P-Prometheus from a communications network of unknown size. Our initial analysis has confirmed it originated from the Delta Qua-Quadrant.

Hayes: Can you tell us more about this network?

Barclay: I-I've provided our data to Captain uh-Shelby. The datastream contained a. Complete. Holographic. Matrix. One with a-a Starfleet identification string.

Necheyev: What are you trying to tell us, Lieutenant Barclay?

Ross: The hologram came from the Delta Quadrant?

Barclay: I think it would be easier to let him explain in his own words.

The room falls silent for a moment.

Henry: Well, don't keep us waiting.

Barclay: Oh I uh- of course. Forwarding him through... Now.

The face of the human lieutenant is replaced with a bald man, wearing a retired uniform style with green shoulders.

EMH: Please state the nature of the medical emergency.

Ross: Shelby. Is this a joke? What's a Mark I EMH doing onboard a prototype?

Paris: Aren't all new ship designs testing the Mark II?

EMH: I can assure you that if this is a joke, there are multiple Romulans now in the brig of this ship that certainly aren't laughing. And I'm not the EMH from this ship. He's currently treating the injuries of our... Guests.

Paris: Where did you come from then?

EMH: I thought Mr Barclay would have already told you. I was sent here through an alien communications network. I'm from the starship Voyager.

Nechayev: It seems he omitted this particular information.

Henry: Wasn't Voyager declared lost fourteen months ago?

Paris: It was... My son was onboard, I broke the news to the families myself.

EMH: Ah, Admiral Paris. I'm happy to inform you that your son is alive and well. If somewhat of a proverbial pain in the back side from time to time...

There is a stunned silence, the Admirals are speechless. Voyager's EMH is not.

EMH: We were thrown across the galaxy by an alien force called the Caretaker 3 years ago. A number of the crew were killed during this initial... Transit. Including the Chief Medical Officer. I've been serving as his replacement ever since.

Henry: Owen, do you need a moment?

Paris: No, no. I need to be here, I need to understand this.

Necheyev: Captain Shelby, is this Lieutenant Barclay certain that this isn't some sort of glitch? Perhaps an archived program that was reactivated when the Romulans disabled the ship's security systems1?

Shelby: We've checked and double checked. The origin of the transmission was in the Delta Quadrant, and this EMH knows information about the crew that isn't on the public record.

Paris: Can we use this... Network to contact Voyager?

EMH: I certainly hope so... Captain Janeway did say that you would need to match the networks... Interlink frequency to send me back. Once you've moved into range of course. That shouldn't be too difficult.

Ross: I forgot how much I disliked these programs

EMH: I may be a hologram, but I can still hear.

Hayes: EMH... Doctor? We'll instruct our people to escort Prometheus back to the point where the ship received your transmission.

Paris: I'll reach out to relatives of the crew personally to let them know the news.

Hayes: Doctor. You can let your crew know that we promise we won't stop until we find a way to bring them home.

Paris: And make sure they know they're no longer alone.
